Postural care is an essential foundation for comfort, protection of body shape, and participation in daily life — particularly for individuals living with physical disabilities. Without the right support, poor posture can lead to pain, reduced function, and long-term complications.
I offer comprehensive occupational therapy interventions tailored to the needs of individuals with physical disabilities and complex postural needs, with a focus on promoting comfort, independence, and quality of life.
I use a 24-hour postural care approach, recognising that how a person is positioned throughout the day and night has a significant impact on their health and wellbeing.
Interventions include:
Thorough postural assessment
I assess the individual’s range of movement, body alignment, and presentation in both sitting and lying positions, identifying any risks and unmet needs.
24-hour postural care planning
I develop personalised care strategies that address posture across all settings — including bed positioning, seating, transfers, and rest — to reduce risk of pressure injuries, improve breathing and digestion, and support physical comfort.
Equipment recommendations and prescriptions
I identify and prescribe bespoke wheelchairs, specialist indoor seating, and equipment to support self-care needs such as bathing, toileting, specialist bed solutions and night time positioning— all tailored to the individual's needs and goals.
Functional independence support
Interventions are designed to enable the person to participate in meaningful activities, promoting dignity, choice, and autonomy wherever possible.
Collaborative working and training
I work closely with families, carers, and other professionals to ensure postural care is consistent, effective, and sustainable across all environments.
My approach is holistic, respectful, and person-centred — ensuring that every individual receives the support they need to live with as much comfort, function, and independence as possible.
